The search for 46-year-old Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede has ended in tragedy after her body was discovered in Naperville, Illinois, two weeks after she was reported missing.
Abosede, who had been missing since July 30, 2025, was last seen leaving her home on Sudbury Street around 9:20 a.m. According to authorities, her remains were located on Thursday afternoon, August 14, near a trailhead at the southwest corner of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, close to 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive.
In a joint statement, the Naperville Police Department and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County confirmed that officers were called to the scene following reports of a body being discovered. Police said officers were guided through a dense area of tall grass, where they found the remains. The clothing on the body matched what Abosede was last seen wearing.
While official confirmation will come from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office, Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres expressed condolences to the family.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincere condolences to the Abosede family during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone in our community who assisted with this investigation and for your care and concern. We ask that everyone keep the family in your thoughts and respect their privacy.”
Family members have also confirmed the heartbreaking development. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), her cousin Fehintola da-Silva wrote:
“My cousin, Sinmi, was found dead. This has been a blow to our family. To everyone who reposted, shared, and reached out during the search, thank you for your kindness. May her soul rest in peace.”
The news has sent shockwaves through her community. St. Raphael Catholic Church, where Abosede was a parishioner, released a statement expressing grief and offering prayers.
“Our parish family at St. Raphael Catholic Church has been praying diligently for the safe return of Olasinmibo ‘Sinmi’ Abosede. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of her passing. We are deeply saddened, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time. May our Blessed Mother and St. Raphael escort Sinmi into Eternal Life.”
Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected in her death.
