Borno Man Survives After Suicide Attempt, Genital Self-Mutilation Over Estranged Wife’s Refusal

A 50-year-old man, identified as Modu Isa, is recovering in hospital after a shocking suicide attempt in which he stabbed himself multiple times and severed his genitals in Bama, Borno State.

The disturbing incident happened on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Hausari Ward. Community members who witnessed the episode rushed to Isa’s aid before security operatives arrived.

According to accounts shared with security analyst Zagazola Makama, Isa stabbed himself three times in the stomach before cutting off his genitals. Witnesses said his actions stemmed from frustration over his estranged wife, Bayanxe Modu of Konduga, who had divorced him three times and refused to return to his home.

One shocked neighbor recounted Isa’s chilling words before the act: “He said if Bayanxe cannot have him, then his gbola too must go.”

Police officers who arrived at the scene recovered the blood-stained knife as evidence and immediately evacuated Isa to the General Hospital in Bama.

In what medical staff are calling nothing short of a miracle, doctors performed an emergency surgery to reattach the severed organ. A hospital source confirmed on Saturday that Isa is alive and responding well to treatment: “The gbola has been brought back to him and he is currently stable.”

Meanwhile, security officials revealed that the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation.

The shocking incident has left residents in disbelief, sparking conversations about mental health, emotional trauma, and the hidden struggles many people endure in silence.
